Aftercare Instructions

Tattoo Armour Instructions If Zu provided you with an aftercare package of tattoo armour you are required to change each piece after 6 hours. Between changing of bandages make sure you clean your tattoo with warm water, unscented soap and do not apply any moisturizer between the tattoo and the tattoo armour pad. On your third bandage change you can apply a small amount of balm or unscented cream. Please see link below for Zu's recommended aftercare product. Once you run out of bandages you are responsible to keep your tattoo clean, moisturized and out of open water and sun. PLEASE DO NOT SWIM WITH YOUR NEW TATTOO FOR A MINIMUM OF 4 WEEKS.

Dermasheild ie: Second Skin Instructions If Zu provided you with 'second skin' for aftercare you can keep your bandage on for up to 4 days. Your tattoo is protected by the film from all elements except for sun exposure so continue to keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. Your bandage is water resistant not waterproof so please do not fully submerge it in water or take a bath/hot tub. While your tattoo is healing with the second skin please watch for these possible scenarios. 1. An ink sack. This is a natural reaction that your body produces a liquid called 'plasma' this liquid helps speed up healing of your tattoo however in a natural setting the plasma has a chance to evaporate and create scabbing. While you have your second skin applied the tattoo does not have exposure to oxygen therefor your tattoo can suffocate and cause infection with the ink sack underneath. If you experience an ink sack it is best to advise Zu directly. Small amounts of ink under the film are normal however if fluid is left on too long it can cause healing issues, therefor either advise Zu or proceed with your aftercare instructions below. 2. An allergic reaction. An allergic reaction is more likely to happen during the summer months due to heat, sweat, and reaction with the glue of the film. If you experience an allergic reaction it can look red, itchy around the edges of your bandage, sometimes the tattoo is unaffected however the rest of the area can become inflamed and irritated. It is best to take off the bandage and seek medical assistance in regards to allergy medication. Zu cannot provide medical assistance but has found over-the counter allergy medication can work. PLEASE DO NOT SWIM WITH YOUR NEW TATTOO FOR A MINIMUM OF 4 WEEKS.

The remainder of your aftercare instructions is the same regardless of your bandage type. IF AT ANY POINT DURING YOUR HEALING PROCESS YOU EXPERIENCE FEVER, REDNESS/OOZING PAIN TO THE TOUCH OR OTHER ADVERSE REACTIONS PLEASE SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. Tattoos can take up to to six months to heal however the first 4 weeks are crucial to preserve the longevity of your new tattoo. Week 1/2 - wash your tattoo twice a day with unscented soap and apply unscented moisturizer. Allowing your tattoo to breathe is also helpful while keeping it away from the elements, pet hair, dirt, etc. (Second skin clients skip the first 4 days of this step) Your infection period is significantly minimized after the first week, you can minimize washing but continue to care for your tattoo and moisturize. Week 2/3 - Tattoos can scab/peel during this period. It is important no to over-moisturize and not pick at any peeling areas/tattoos. Picking at your tattoo will cause damage and will require touchups. If your tattoo has clearly been picked Zu will not be as lenient with her touch-up policy as it is intended for clients who care for their tattoos and follow instruction. Week 3/4 you can start to enjoy your sleeve with less diligence, continue to moisturize daily for up to 6 months. You can now swim as long as all 'open' areas of your tattoos have successfully healed. Sun screen can start to be applied during this stage as well.  Zu encourages questions therefor if there is any of the above instructions that require more clarifications do not hesitate to reach out. Congratulations on your new tattoo!
